Contact Lens

Consultations

Almost anyone can try contact lenses. If you would like clear vision, with a wide field of view, not having to worry about spectacles fogging up, getting wet or moving around, then contact lenses may be for you.

Contact Lens design technology has advanced and today’s high-tech products offer a cost-effective, convenient solution for those with sight problems such as short and long-sightedness, astigmatism and even for those that wear bifocals or varifocals with the design of Multifocal contact lenses.

Even if you have tried contact lenses before and given up, or told you are not suitable for contact lenses, now may be the time to try again!

Some lenses can even be worn overnight and daily disposables offer the ultimate in convenience.

Look Eyecare Optometrist, Shane has worn contact lenses since he was 12 years of age, that's over  30 years! He has worn many different types and brands since then.

As he is short-sighted, he was given contact lenses for playing sport, which he has no doubt let him advance much more the he would have done otherwise. There's no reason why age should be a barrier. Research has shown that children can be successful and enjoy contact lens wear.

You will be shown how to insert, remove and care for your contact lenses before you are issued with them and it be necessary to attend for regular aftercare appointments to ensure the continuing health of your eyes.

Additional consultations are often required to check that the contact lenses fit well when they have settled on the eyes after a few hours wear and to ensure that there have been no detrimental effects.

Aftercare appointments

Regular follow up, aftercare appointments are important to check the contact lens fit, vision and eye health. They are a good opportunity to discuss any problems with your contact lenses or your eyes and to ensure you are wearing the best lenses for your requirements. Follow-up appointments are usually every six to 12 months, yet they may be recommended more frequently for new patients, young children or those with conditions such as dry eyes requiring more careful observation. In the UK, it’s a legal requirement to have a contact lens aftercare to buy contact lenses. If you don’t have a hard copy of your prescription, we are happy to contact the practice where you had your check ups, or you can request copies to be emailed/faxed to us.

Contact lenses are generally safe to wear and rarely cause serious eye complications. Yet, conditions left untreated may cause significant symptoms if they advance. Regular, planned aftercare examinations will minimise this risk and ensure that any issues are more likely to be minor.  “If in doubt take them out”.
