Keeping sight of what's important
Contact Lenses
Almost anyone can try contact lenses. If you would like clear vision, with a wide field of view, not having to worry about spectacles fogging up, getting wet or moving around, then contact lenses may be for you. If you want to wear contact lenses almost every day or only for certain occasions such as nights out, sports, weddings or in the rain, there is a lens suitable for you.
Technology has advanced since the introduction of contact lenses and today’s high-tech products offer a cost-effective, convenient solution for those with sight problems such as short and long-sightedness, astigmatism and even for those that wear bifocals or varifocals with the latest Multifocal contact lens design.
Even if you have tried contact lenses in the past and given up, or told you are not suitable for contact lenses, now may be the time to try again!
Look Eyecare Optometrist, Shane, has worn contact lenses since he was 12 years of age, over 30 years! He has worn many different types and brands since then. As he is short-sighted, he was originally given contact lenses for playing sport. There's no reason why age should be a barrier. Research has shown that children can be successful and enjoy contact lens wear.
Daily disposables: Single use lenses reduce the risk of infection, improve comfort and improve the ease of use. These lenses are ideal both for frequent or infrequent wear.
Monthly / 2 Weekly Disposables: Soft lenses that are cleaned and stored in a container after use. After a month or 2 weeks they are then disposed of.
Non-disposable: Soft lenses that may last up to one year. They are for specialized custom fit lenses.
Extended wear: Lenses that can be slept in overnight. They generally are monthly or two-weekly lenses. You should never sleep in your lenses unless advised that it is safe to do so.
Toric contact lenses: For astigmatism and now available in daily, monthly, extended wear and multi focal lenses.
Multifocal: Contact lenses and monovision correction are an excellent way to correct both your distance and near vision at the same time.
Rigid gas permeable: Contact lenses also known as RGP or GP contact lenses. Hard, RGP contact lenses are tailor made from rigid plastic materials which are now generally called gas-permeable (GP) due to their high oxygen permeability.
Hard, rigid gas permeable contact lenses are durable and if well cared for can last for a long time.
